10月9日 Reading week / Semaine de la lectureThis week is reading week and everyone is encouraged to spend more time reading. One of the initiative at work is that we would send people to read to students at the local school. So when my colleague didn't turn up, they asked if someone could replace her... and that's how I got involved. I volunteered and went to the nearby school where they were waiting for me. A little student called Sherry welcomed me to the school and got me to choose a book, she offered me water... that was so nice (she had little pieces of paper in her hand to help her know what to say!!!) and then she introduced me to the Grade 1 class I would read to... then again, she read her little speech to introduce me although she had trouble remembering my name, bless her! I then proceeded to read to the class, making sure they were paying attention and making them participate as much as I could. There was even a song at the end of the book that I obviously didn't know... That's when the teacher took her guitar and started singing... so I sang along with the kids and we had a great time. As I was saying good buy and thanking them for having me, a couple of kids came to see me to thank me and gave me hugs... That was soooo sweet :) I'll definitely do it again next year!
Cette semaine c'etait le semaine de la lecture et tout le monde est encourage a lire plus. Du coup, au boulot, ils ont decide de nous envoyer a l'ecole d'a cote pour faire la lecture aux etudiants. Vu que ma collegue n'arrivait pas, ils ont demande si quelqu'un pouvait la remplacer et c'est comme ca que je me suis retrouvee a lire. Je me suis fait volontaire et je suis allee a l'ecole du coin ou une petite fille nommee Sherry m'attendait. Elle m'a acceuillie a l'ecole et m'a aidee a choisir un livre et puis elle m'a offert un verre d'eau... c'etait mignon ( elle avait son speech de marque sur des petites fiches histoire de savoir quoi dire!!!) et puis elle m'a presentee a une classe de CP... La aussi elle a sorti sa petite fiche pour me presenter mais la pauvre avait su mal a se souvenir de mon prenom! J'ai donc fait la lecture, en faisant attention a ce que tout le monde soit attentif et je voulais aussi qu'ils participent. Il y avait meme une chanson a la fin du livre qu'evidemment je ne connaissais pas... Mais, pas de soucis, la maitresse a pris sa guitare et a commence a chanter... du coup moi aussi j'ai chante avec les eleves. Pendant que je disais au revoir et merci, quelques eleves se sont approche pour me remercier et pour me donner une acollade... C'etait super mimi :) Je vais certainement m'inscrire l'annee prochaine! 10月7日 Fencing / Escrime - En Guarde!Last night saw our first try at fencing... That was really nice! I didn't quite know what to expect but I knew I would be a little sore today... well guess what... I am :) That was totally worth it. Our trainer is Jujie Luan, and she communicates her passion very well. So much so that Jeff and I signed for 10 lessons :) We'll see how it goes! At least a lot of the terms are in french, so that shouldn' t be too much of a problem for us!
Hier soir on a essaye un nouveau sport, l'escrime... C'etait vraiment sympa! Je ne savais pas trop a quoi m'attendre a part avoir mal aux jambes le lendemain et je n'avais pas tort :) Ca valait le coup en tout cas. Notre entraineur est Jujie Luan et elle partage sa passion avec enthousiasme. A tel point que Jeff et moi nous sommes inscrits pour 10 lecons :) On verra bien comment ca se passera! Au moins la plupart des termes sont en francais, du coup ca ne devrait pas nour poser de problemes! |
