9月7日 Butter / Beurre I made my very own first batch of home made butter last night :) Bought the best quality cream I could find in Edmonton and shook the hell out of it for 20 min... and Tada... butter was created :) J'ai fait du beurre maison pour la premiere fois hier soir :) J'ai achete la meilleure creme liquide que j'ai pu trouver a Edmonton et je l'ai battue pendant 20 min environ et voila... resultat: du bon beurre :)  8月31日 More Dragon boat videos / Encore des videos du Dragon BoatWe are in lane 1, closer to the shore. Nous sommes sur la ligne du milieu et on a la medaille d'argent! 8月30日 Dragon Boat videos / Videos du Dragon BoatThis is the Friday night race... we are the boat taking on water... way too heavy at the front! We rectified that for the other races. Although it looks like we didn't win, we did! The boat that is in front actually wasn't in our challenge :) C'est la course du vendredi soir... notre bateau est celui wui prend l'eau... on etait trop lourd a l'avant! On rectifie ca pour les autres courses. Nous avons gagne la course meme si ca ne parait pas. Le bateau devant nous n'etait pas dans la meme division :) 7月22日 Dragon boat season! - C'est la saison du dragon boat! Here we go again, the dragon boat season has started and we are training twice a week. The festival is at the end of August and the team is much bigger (so far) that last year!!! It is so nice to be on the river again (except that it can be quite stinky!!). I will post some videos soon. Last weekend, we got third out 12 teams for the sprint races... Pretty good for a boat half full of newbies :) Et voila, le dragon boat est de retour et on a recommence les entrainements 2 fois par semaine. Le festival est fin Aout et l'equipe est plus grande cette annee!!! C'est super de refaire du bateau meme si le fleuve pue de temps en temps!!. je mettrai des videos dans pas longtemps. Le weekend dernier, notre equipe est arrivee 3eme sur 12 sur les sprints... Pas mal sachant que la moitie des gens sont nouveau sur le bateau :) 7月20日 Big Storm in Edmonton over the weekend! / Gros orage sur Edmonton ce weekend!We had over 100km/h winds on Saturday night which caused havoc in the city. Lots of trees are down, damage to buildings and not counting power lines down... I believe they are still working on it today as parts of the city still has no power!!! We missed everything though as we were at a show, and by the time we got out, the worse had happened. Fortunately, nothing happened in our area!!!
On a eu des vents a plus de 100km/h qui ont cause pas mal de degats en ville. Beaucoup d'arbres casses, de buildings endommages sans compter les lignes electriques coupees... Je pense qu'ils sont encore en train de reparer aujourd'hui vu que certains quartiers sont encore sans electricite!!! On a tout loupe vu qu'on etait a un spectacle, et quand on est sorti, le pire etait passe. Heureusement, il n'y a pas eu de degats dans notre quartier!!! 7月8日 Nephew and Niece - Neveu et NieceYay... Both my sister in law and my sister gave birth the same day..

than never :) So I am now the proud godmother to a little Oscar and auntie to a little Albane! Isn't that cool???? Super... Ma belle soeur et ma soeur ont accouche le meme jour... le 7 Mai! Bon, je suis un peu en retard j'avoue... mais bon, mieux vaut tard que jamais :) Je suis donc marraine d'un petit Oscar et tata d'une petite Albane! C'est pas cool ca????   Tornado watch in Edmonton - Alerte a la tornade a Edmonton From what I can see, it is more funnel clouds that a huge tornado... but still! Nothing for now, but clouds are moving pretty fast! I'll keep you posted if anything happens... D'apres ce que j'ai compris, c'est plus des minis tornades... mais bon! Pour l'instant rien mais les nuages bougent bien vite! Je vous tiens au courant si quoique ce soit arrive... 7月7日 Mini tornado in Red Deer - Mini tornade a Red Deer There was a mini tornado in Red Deer, 1h30 south of Edmonton on Saturday night. Apparently we missed it by an hour on our way back from the mountains! Il y a eu une mini tornade a Red Deer, environ 1h30 au sud d'Edmonton, Samedi soir. Apparemment on l'a loupe d'environ une heure en revenant des montagnes! 7月5日 Kananaskis Back from a long relaxing weekend in Kananaskis! That was awesome as usual! Really enjoyed it :) Jeff and I spent the weekend at Jon's parents cabin with some friends. The weather was just on the chilly side but very manageable, I still manage to get a little tan! The guys tried their hands at fishing... and the experience was not successful at all!!! But we were not waiting for them to feed us and we had lots of food prepared! I cooked a rabbit in cider, for most of the friends, it was the first time they were trying... and no one complained :) and then we had some "flip sticks" (filipino barbecue pork skewers) as Kris likes to call them and then we had some prime ribs on the BBQ... that was perfect!!! I am not even counting the amount of burgers and hot dogs that were consumed :) We had tons of smores... we did some experiments... first of all, I made some marshmallows and I had no idea how they would hold up to the fire... and it was great!!! Then, we tried different combinations with different chocolate bars and that was just delicious!!! Too bad weekends go way too fast! Check out the pictures. Nous voila de retour d'un weekend relax a la montagne (Kananaskis)! C'etait super, comme d'habitude :) Jeff et moi avons passe le weekend dans le chalet des parents de Jon avec les copains. Il faisait un peu frisquet mais bon, il faisait bon quand meme, j'ai reussi a bronzer! Les gars sont aller pecher... mais bon, on peut pas dire que ca a marche!!! On ne les a pas attendu pour manger, on avait plein de bouffe! J'ai fait un lapin au cidre, c'etait la premiere fois que les copains essayaient... et tout le monde s'est regale :) et puis on a eu des brochettes des Philippines (porc a la sauce au barbeuc) et puis des cotes a l'os... parfait!!! Je ne parle meme pas du nombre de burgers et hot dogs qu'on a mange :) et puis on a fait plein de smore's... on a experimente... d'abord parce que j'avais fait des shamallows et que j'avais aucune idee de comment ils allaient reagir a la flamme... et puis apres on a essaye avec plein de chocolats differents... c'etait delicieux!!! Miam miam!   4月2日 April is here... Et voila Avril...April is here and there is still snow on the ground :) The weather is definitely improving but Spring feels like it is long overdue!!! I can't wait for the grass to be green again... I want to sit outside and enjoy a nice BBQ while sipping a nice cocktail... OK it might be a little early, but hey I'm allowed to dream right???
Et voila le moi d'Avril et on a toujours de la neige :) Le temps s'ameliore mais le printemps se fait attendre!!! J'ai hate de profiter du jardin et de faire un BBQ... Antartica weather / Aussi froid qu'en Antartique This morning, Edmonton was nearly as cold as the South Pole, Antartica... Well, I guess it doesn't happen every day, but since one of my friend mentioned it today, I thought I'd check :) Well, it was true, last time I checked it was -46 °C! This morning, we had -42 °C at the Edmonton Airport with a windchill of -52 °C... Definitely the coldest day in my life :) Wow, that hurts! Ce matin, il faisait aussi froid qu'au Pole Sud, Antartique... J'imagine que ca ne doit pas arriver tous les jours, mais vu qu'un copain m'a dit ca aujourd'hui, je me suis dit que j'allais verifier tout ca :) Et bien c'etait vrai, la derniere dois que j'ai regarde il faisait -46 °C! Ce matin, nous avions -42 °C a l'aeroport d'Edmonton avec un froid ressenti de -52 °C... Le jour le plus froid de ma vie c'est sur :) Ca pince! 3月9日 Kicking Horse March 09 - Mars 09 Last weekend was our last trip to the mountain at least for skiing. This time, I didn't take any photos as the weather was pretty bad. We had constant snow on Saturday which made the visibility inexistent... we had no depth of field perception whatsoever... which made it really difficult to go fast and it was pretty tiring on the legs too as you have to be ready for anything since you can't see a thing!!! It was still a good day of skiing except that I was ready to go home by 2.45 (I did just that by the way)! I was totally oblivious to what was happening on the other side of the mountain, unfortunately an avalanche was triggered out of bounds and two people perished. All the rescue efforts concentrated on the striken area and therefore the rest of lifts/gondola were closed for the rest of the afternoon. That was our reality check for the day. We are certainly not good enough to ski out of bounds, but once again it proves that mountains are dangerous places and that there are risks involved. Such a shame :( Nous avons passe notre dernier weekend a la montagne. Cette fois ci, pas de photos a cause du temps. On a eu de la neige non-stop Samedi, et on ne voyait vraiment rien... aucune perception de profondeur... du coup on ne pouvait pas aller vite et mes jambes etaient fatiguees vu qu'il faut toujours etre pret a tout vu qu'on ne voit rien!!! C'etait une bonne journee quand meme et je suis rentree a la maison crevee a 2h45! Je ne me doutais pas de ce qu'il se passait de l'autre cote de la montagne ou une avalanche s'est declenchee par des gens qui faisaient du hors piste et deux personnes ne s'en sont pas sorties. Tous les efforts etaient concentres pour l'operation de sauvetage et toutes les chaises/oeufs ont ete ferme pour le reste de la journee. Ca nous a quand meme un peu retourne. On est franchement pas assez bon pour faire du hors piste, mais ca prouve bien que la montagne peut etre dangereuse et qu'il y a quand meme des risques. C'est dommage :( 3月5日 4 days in the Mountains :) 4 jours a la Montagne Since Jeff's company closed for two days, ten of us decided to hit the slopes and enjoy the mountains! We rented a house in Canmore and off we went to Lake Louise, Sunshine and Nakiska in that order :) We couldn't have had more perfect weather... the snow was really good although a little sticky the first day, we had bright sunny days and best of all, it was not even cold! To top it off, it wasn't even busy and we really enjoyed our whole time there! I kind of got scared when the car didn't want to start on the first morning, especially since we were carpooling! But everything worked out in the end :) Enjoy the photos! Vu que la boite de Jeff etait fermee pour deux jours, dix d'entre nous avons decide d'aller skier a la montagne! On a loue une maison a Canmore et de la nous somme alle a Lake Louise, Sunshine et Nakiska dans cet ordre la :) On a eu un temps parfait... la neige etait bonne meme si elle collait un peu le premier jour, grand soleil et le mieux de tout c'est qu'il ne faisait meme pas froid! En plus de ca, il n'y avait personne sur les pistes et on s'est vraiment bien amuse! J'ai eu un peu peur quand la voiture n'a pas voulu demarrer le premier matin, surtout qu'on avait 3 voitures pour 10 + materiel! Mais tout s'est arrange :) Voila les photos!  2月11日 Fernie Feb 2009 / Fernie Fevrier 2009Just back from Fernie and it was an awesome trip. The weather was perfect... 10 cm of fresh snow on the Saturday and bright sunny day on the Sunday! Temperatures were quite high too, around -1 :) Here's a few pictures
Et voila, de retour de Fernie et on s'est eclate. Le temps etait parfait... 10cm de neige fraiche le Samedi et un Dimanche tres ensoleille! Il ne faisait meme pas froid, on tournait autour des -1 :) Voici quelques photos
2月1日 Curling We tried curling for the very first time yesterday... that was fun! There was something like 40 of us... most us not knowing what we were doing!!! We had a little bit of a demonstration and then we were left to ourselves... I managed to fall on my first throw, I think I'll have a massive bruise appearing on my knee soon :) Our team managed to get one point out of 2 full games... Ahahah that was fun! We'll definitely try that again. It's not extremely physical, or I should say that you actually don't feel like you're doing a lot of efforts. However, I can tell you that I feel my arm and shoulder today :) I am sure that I could do quite well at curling with some training. Check out the photos in the album! Hier, nous avons curle pour la premiere fois... c'est bien marrant! Il y avait 40 personnes sur la glace... et la plupart d'entre nous ne savaient pas ce qu'ils faisaient!!! On nous a fait une petite demo et hop debrouille toi... J'ai reussi a me ramasser en lancant ma premiere pierre, je pense que je ne vais pas tarder a avoir un beau bleu sur le genou :) On a reussi a marquer un point sur 2 matchs... ahhaha on s'est bien marre! On va certainement y retourner. Ca n'est pas un sport tres physique, ou du moins t'as pas l'impression de faire beaucoup d'efforts. Ceci dit, j'ai mal aux bras et aux epaules aujourd'hui :) Avec de l'entrainement, je pense que je me debrouillerait bien. Les photos sont dans l'album!  1月27日 Kicking Horse!Every winter, we make sure we go skiing... Kicking Horse is one of
our all time favorite! Once again, this year did not disappoint. We had
really good weather on the Saturday, didn't even need a sweater, I was
just skiing with 2 base layers and my jacket! It was really enjoyable.
Second day was really good too except for high winds at the top which
caused the closure of the gondola! Even without the gondola, the
Pioneer Chair offered enough challenges for the day. The Kicking Horse
run is pretty steep and fun! Best thing of all, I didn't get injured :)
The highlight of the weekend was our Saturday night luxury dinner at
the Eagle Eye at the top of the mountain. We had a special treatment
when we took the gondola, they provided us with blankets to keep us
warm.. very nice touch! The food was amazing (a bit pricey but hey what
do you expect, you are the top of a mountain!). I think it was the best
meal we ever had in Canada... we later learnt that the chef was
actually french... that explains a lot!!! The foie gras tasted like the
one we have at home, the duck tasted fantastic and the desert was
perfect. I ate way too much for my own good but I have trouble saying
no to good food :)

Horse est notre montagne favorie! Cette annee encore, on a pas ete
decu. On a eu du super beau temps le Samedi, meme pas besoin de porter
un pull, j'ai skie avec 2 sous pulls et mon blouson! C'etait vraiment
agreable. Le deuxieme jour s'est bien passe aussi mais ils ont ete
oblige de fermer les oeufs a cause de vents forts au sommet. Meme sans
les oeufs, la chaise de Pionier nos a donne du fils a retordre. La
piste Kicking Horse est bien raide mais sympa! mais le mieux de tout
c'est que je ne me suis pas blessee :) Le point fort du weekend fut
notre diner du samedi soir a l'Eagle Eye tout en haut de la montagne.
On a ete traite comme des rois, ils nous ont meme donne des couvertures
pour la montee.. Le repas etait delicieux (cher mais on est quand meme
en haut d'une montagne!). Je crois que c'est le meilleur repas qu'on a
jamais eu au Canada... on a appris plus tard que le chef est
francais... tout s'explique!!! Le foie gras avait le meme gout qu'a la
maison, le canard etait fantastique et le dessert etait parfait. J'ai
evidemment trop mange, mais c'est dur de refuser de la bonne bouffe:)  Skating / PatinageWe finally had a lapse in the weather whereby it stopped being -30 for a week or so... It was time to buy ice skates (I've been wanting to do that for the past 3 years now) and try to enjoy the winter wonderland! Believe it or not, it is not so easy to find skates (at least for girls and for my size!!!) but we succeeded and got ourselves some reasonable skates. We went to the lake for the first time and tried our new devices... Well... it was not pretty nor elegant but it was not as bad as I thought it would be:) We even managed to go around the lake without falling... which is just pure miracle in my opinion! I had to stop a few times though, skating can be so tiring when you are tense... it got better towards the end but I didn't want to push my luck too much... one lap was more than enough for a first try out! Next time should be better :)
On a enfin eu une semaine de beau temps apres notre periode a -30... Juste le bon moment pour acheter des patins a glace (ca fait 3 ans que je voulais faire ca) et profiter un peu d el'hiver! Ca n'est pas si facile que ca de trouver des patins de fille et en plus a ma taille!!! mais on a reussi et on s'est donc achete des patins. On les a essaye pour la premiere fois sur le lac... bon... c'etait pas tres joli ni elegant mais bon c'etait pas aussi catastrophique que je le prevoyais :) On afiat le tour du lac sans tomber... un vrai miracle en ce qui me concerne! Il a fallu que je me repose plusieurs fois, c'est incroyable ce que l'on peut se fatiguer quand on est pas a l'aise... Ca allait mieux a la fin mais j'ai pas voulu trop pousser... un tour, c'est plus que suffisant pour une premiere fois! Ce sera mieux la prochaine fois :)   Happy New Year / Bonne AnneeTalking about New Year, we had an awesome party thanks to our hosts extraodinaires Theresa and Alain :) First of all, it was really nice of them to invite Xav and Uta and Charlotte too! Well appreciated! And then, we had our first sushi experience...All the ingredients were ready for our very first attempt at making sushis! Wooohooo! That was just so very cool and delicious :) And then, there was the poker where yours truly finished first...I say: Very good start to the new year! Cheers everyone!
En parlant de Nouvel An, on a passe une super soiree grace a nos hotes extraordinaires, Theresa et Alain :) Tout d'abord, c'etait sympa de leur part d'inviter Xav, Uta et Charlotte! Un grand merci! Et puis, il y a eu les sushis... Tous les ingredients etaient deja prets pour essayer de faire nos premiers sushis! Ahahah! C'etait super sympa et delicieux :) Et puis il y a eu le tournoi de poker ou j'ai fini premiere... Moi je dis: Tres bon debut d'annee! Sante!   |
